Students for GSoC projects wanted

We are excited to be back as a mentoring organisation for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and are currently looking for enthusiastic students interested in doing a project with us. The GSoC initiative gives students the opportunity to spend the summer break gaining real-world hardware and software development experience while earning a stipend from Google. If you’re a student interested in applying, we strongly recommend you read up on how GSoC works and study the Google Summer of Code Student Guide, which contains excellent advice on preparing a high quality proposal.

We have a set of project proposals based around the vibrant open source projects that we either host or actively contribute to. Examples include: the OpenTitan silicon root of trust; our RISC-V processor core, Ibex; the LLVM compiler infrastructure; and the lowRISC 64-bit SoC. In addition, some of our proposals also connect these projects with other open-source initiatives such as Project IceStorm, the fully open source Verilog-to-bitstream flow for iCE40 FPGAs, and sigrok, the portable, cross-platform, signal analysis software suite.

Our projects will be mentored by the lowRISC engineering team. We are experienced with guiding GSoC and other student projects at top academic institutions such as the University of Cambridge, TU München, and ETH Zürich.

We are especially interested in using GSoC as an opportunity to broaden participation in open source development—we particularly encourage applications from underrepresented groups and those who may not have had the opportunity to participate in open source previously.
